Tips for better family photos

  1. Go at golden hour. The hour after sunrise or before sunset gives soft light and fewer squinting kids.
  2. Feed them first. Snacks in the car and a favorite toy just out of frame buy you five more good minutes.
  3. Coordinate, don’t match. Pick two or three colors that go together; skip busy logos.
  4. Check the rules if you hire a pro. Family snapshots are fine almost everywhere, but some parks and gardens require a permit or appointment for professional or staged shoots.
  5. Book Santa early. Weekend Santa slots in December fill first; weekday evenings and the first week are calmer.
